Middletown health officials report $949,600 final preparedness reimbursement, active TB case and $50,000 workforce grant

Middletown health officials said they submitted the final reimbursement invoice for the public health emergency preparedness contract year — about $949,600 — to Butler County, which forwards it to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Chandra, the health department's director of nursing, reported the payment request and said the department has met the deliverables for that contract year.
The reimbursement matters because state awards fund local preparedness activities and staffing. Chandra told the board, “We submitted for our final reimbursement. We've met all of our deliverables and submitted them to Butler County. Who then submits them to ODH. So our final invoice was sent to Butler County for, I think it's a little over, it's around $949,600 dollars, for our final payment for this contract year.”
Officials also reported communicable-disease activity tied to tuberculosis this month. Dr. Benoit, the department's medical director, provided the monthly reportable-illness totals for April; later Chandra said an active TB case recently developed in a woman born outside the United States and that a child in the home is being treated as a contact and is not symptomatic. Chandra said those developments are recent and the department will provide ongoing updates to the board.
The department also said it was awarded $50,000 under a workforce development grant and is reworking the grant budget to incorporate that funding. Chandra said the state has not yet issued notice of awards for the 2025-26 preparedness contract, which typically begins July 1, and the department is awaiting that announcement.
The board voted earlier in the meeting to receive and file the department's April financial report; the roll call shows a unanimous affirmative vote by the members present. The department said it will return to the board with further updates if the state issues changes to funding or award amounts.
Board members asked for follow-up on the TB family and for notice when the state releases the next contract-year awards.
