The City Council on June 2 approved a payment of $43,690.42 to Visto's Trailer Sales of West Fargo to purchase a USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) trailer for the Aberdeen Fire Department.
Fire Chief Joel Wieg told the council the trailer will carry the department's rescue equipment and support South Dakota Task Force 1 operations. "This trailer will handle all of our use of our equipment," Wieg said, adding the new trailer replaces the current trailer, which is 10 feet shorter and no longer has adequate space for the department's gear.
Chief Wieg said the department will keep the existing trailer for other storage purposes and store the units at Station Number 2. Councilwoman Johnson moved the approval and Councilwoman Liebelt seconded. The council approved the purchase by roll-call vote.
The purchase is intended to ensure the department has sufficient transport and staging capacity when responding within the city, county and region if requested by the task force.
