During citizen comments on June 2 a resident urged Tipp City to make public-notification postings more prominent and questioned current notice practices for zoning and planning items.
The resident said she checked the council agenda online and saw an apparent error listing an $834,000 fire truck that was not on the council's agenda that night, and she raised concerns about how zoning-board appeals notices are distributed. "I checked your agenda for tonight. And on the website, I was expecting you to okay an 834 hundred thousand dollar, fire truck. So I'm sure it's a mistake. But according to the website, that's what you're doing," the resident said.
She said the city posts notices under a "public notifications" section on its website rather than publishing them in a newspaper and that the web location is not prominent. She also said zoning-board appeals notice is mailed only to adjacent landowners and that members of the public cannot request mailed notice of such items.
Council and staff offered to follow up. The mayor noted staff member Bates had identified an earlier agenda error, and staff offered to send the resident an emailed response addressing the specific questions she raised.
Ending: Staff said it would follow up with the resident by email to address the specific issues raised and to review how the city posts and distributes public notices.
