Beavercreek officials and residents gathered for a Memorial Day ceremony to honor service members who died in the nation’s military service, with Mayor Don Adams opening remarks and Colonel Dustin Richards of Wright‑Patterson Air Force Base delivering the keynote address.
The gathering included a prayer by Dr. Ed Green of Beavercreek Christian Church, a pledge of allegiance led by Eagle Scout Ethan Earhart of Troop 71, music from the United States Air Force Band of Flight, an honor guard gun salute from a VFW post and Taps performed by Staff Sergeant James Newford.
Mayor Don Adams framed the ceremony around the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and the community’s duty to remember. Adams introduced the day’s keynote speaker and described the host base: he said the 88th Air Base Wing supports thousands of service members and civilian employees at Wright‑Patterson Air Force Base and noted the base’s broad mix of mission and tenant organizations.
Colonel Dustin Richards, commander of the 88th Air Base Wing at Wright‑Patterson, urged those gathered to reflect on the personal cost of freedom. "Every time we experience the freedoms that we hold dear, the freedom to speak our minds, to assemble with fellow citizens, or to pursue our dreams, we are reminded of the fallen heroes who made these freedoms possible," Richards said.
Dr. Ed Green offered a prayer at the start of the service; the ceremony also included remarks and readings, a poem recited by Mayor Adams and music by the Air Force ensemble. Members of veterans organizations, cadets from Beavercreek High School Junior ROTC, Scouts BSA Troop 71 and local parks and recreation staff participated in organizing and carrying out the event. Kayla Sensabaugh and Aaron Harris of the Beavercreek Parks and Recreation Department were thanked by Adams for coordinating the service.
No formal actions, votes or policy decisions were part of the ceremony. The program focused on remembrance, community participation and musical/honor elements customary for Memorial Day observances.
