Beer board approves on-premise permit for Legends Group after manager list and training review

The Town of Smyrna Beer Board on June 2 approved an on-premise alcohol permit for Legends Group Tennessee LLC, which the applicant said the Iconic Restaurant Group acquired effective that day.
Chip Bradley, managing director of Iconic Restaurant Group, told the board his company now owns Legends and operates several other restaurants, including Pancake Pantry. Bradley described the restaurant’s training and ID-check protocols: "Every server is required to have an ABC license. So they have that 5 hour course that they have to take to understand how to sell liquor, how to understand if people are intoxicated, etcetera," he said. He added that guests are carded on entry and that staff scan IDs at the bar to verify authenticity.
Board members asked about the managers listed on Legends’ application. Bradley said some named managers are multiunit or supporting managers who do not work every day at a particular location; the list was intended to include anyone who could be present. Bradley also acknowledged one outdated manager remained on the application and that the team notified staff that afternoon to correct it.
Amber, the town staff member handling permits, explained the process for adding managers after the permit is issued: applicants should submit manager forms to staff, who will work with the Planning and Development Department to run background checks and confirm compliance. "Just get it directly to me, and I'll work with PDD to run the background and just make sure that everybody's in compliance so we catch things like we did today," she said.
A member moved to approve the on-premise permit; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The board confirmed that routine follow-up—such as submitting manager forms for additional managers—can be handled administratively and does not require another public hearing.
