NDOT staff presented the Gallatin Pike / Main Street complete-street project as an early example of how the city will build “all-access corridors” that combine transit, pedestrian and bicycle investments.
The project team said it is moving toward 30% design by the end of the summer and expects to deliver the corridor in at least two construction phases. Staff described the first phase as work that can be completed within existing right-of-way and the second phase as work that may require additional right-of-way acquisitions and more time to complete.
NDOT staff emphasized the project will be coordinated with transit and traffic improvements and that utility relocation work and other early activities may begin this construction year for segments that do not require new right-of-way. The corridor is being treated as a template for future all‑access corridor work because it combines signal upgrades, sidewalk completion, bike lanes and transit priority elements.
Staff said detailed designs, utility coordination and phasing will be brought to the advisory committee and the public as the project moves from 30% into 60% and 90% design phases.
