Ronzelli Park progress: screen, turf and programs nearing completion; summer camp enrollment rising

City leaders reported progress on Ronceley Park (referred to in remarks as Ronzelli/Ronceley Park) and other recreation activities during the June 2 meeting, saying installations and programming are moving forward and summer camp registration is increasing.
Mayor Diaz said contract work for final turf and screen installations is underway and the city expects key park features to be operational in the coming weeks. Parks and Recreation Director Sandra Garcia reported programs at Jorge Mascanoza community center and Carlo Park are active, with classes including ballet, karate, music, dance and frequent rentals. Garcia said current program registration shows 113 students in weekday classes and approximately 50 signed up so far for summer camp, with a goal of 80–100 campers. She told commissioners the summer program will include three field trips per week and meals provided through the USDA program; activities will include sports, arts and educational components.
Commissioners praised staff, noted maintenance needs related to heavy park use, and discussed additional landscaping and entrance improvements. Mayor Diaz said the city has tested drainage pumps and emergency preparedness measures in advance of the season and continues maintenance to reduce flooding risks. No formal action was taken; items reported were program updates and operational planning.
