The Village of East Canton’s public-works report noted vandalism at the park restroom building and said the restrooms had been closed for repair. Service staff described broken lights, shattered fixtures and repeated damage that has required shutting the facility to reduce ongoing costs.
A village staff member told council members the restroom will remain closed while crews repair lighting and fixtures; the village plans to schedule repairs for the coming week. Officials urged residents to watch over park assets and report suspicious activity.
Council and staff discussed existing camera coverage around the park’s pavilion and basketball area but noted limitations: cameras cannot be placed inside restrooms and may not capture vandalism that occurs within the building. “Unless you walk with a sledgehammer in there, you know, it's hard to justify,” a staff member said when asked about camera utility for indoor damage investigations.
The service report also listed other maintenance work: repaired catch basins, pump-house repairs and preparations to raise and reinstall American flags. Council asked staff to continue monitoring and to report back when repairs are complete.
