Utah County GOP outlines endorsement process, deadlines and $50 filing fee for municipal and school board races

The Utah County Republican Party said it will accept endorsement filings for nonpartisan municipal and school board races this summer, with candidates required to file with their municipality (or the county for the new city of Spring Lake) and separately submit an endorsement application at ucrp.org between June 2 and June 13, officials said.

The announcement, made on the party podcast by Charles Max Wood, vice chair of the Utah County Republican Party, and Christie, party chair, detailed filing locations and the party’s timeline and procedures. Wood and Christie said the party will charge a $50 filing fee to help cover venue costs for countywide “meet the candidate” events and that delegates, not the general public, will cast endorsement ballots at special conventions in five geographic areas across the county.

Why it matters: Local offices decide zoning, public works, school-district organization and spending. The party said its platform guides endorsements because many platform principles apply at the municipal and school-district level, and county leaders want to influence who holds those local offices.
