Residents asked council and police about the village’s automated speed‑camera program and enforcement thresholds during public comments.
A resident asked whether the cameras ticket at “one over” the speed limit or require drivers to be 10 mph over. Chief Derek Contos confirmed the village set its cameras to issue citations starting at 10 mph over the posted limit. “We set ours at 10 above,” he said.
The chief said the village began with two radar signs and plans to add additional devices; he and council members said the equipment is expensive and the village started with two units with plans to expand placement. Residents suggested adding cameras or positioning them differently to catch repeat offenders, particularly near Hope Senior Village and school routes.
No change to policy or ordinance was adopted during the meeting; council and the chief said they will consider adding more devices and will meet with the school before classes resume to discuss bus-related safety.
