Township Administrator Mark DeCarlo told the Township of Washington council on June 2 that the municipality’s energy‑related tax receipts have declined, and the council agreed to consider a resolution urging restoration of those funds.
DeCarlo said the township received $74,424 in energy tax revenue in 2024, $37,002.20 in 2023 and had received $0 so far in 2025. The resolution presented to the council came from the municipal managers association and asks the state to restore energy tax distributions to municipalities.
Council members agreed to defer action until the next meeting to allow time for review. A council member noted that with rising electric costs the tax restoration “may be even more significant” to local revenue, and DeCarlo said the figures warranted attention from the governing body. No final vote was taken at the June 2 meeting; staff and council members indicated they would place the resolution on a future agenda for action and possible adoption.
Action: Discussion and direction to place the resolution on a future agenda for consideration. No formal vote recorded on June 2.
