Peoria County election office to send voter-registration mass mailing in coming weeks

Peoria County election officials told the Ways and Means Committee on June 2 that the county will send a voter-registration mass mailing within two to four weeks to keep voter rolls up to date.
The mailing, which Elizabeth Gannon of the county election commission called “the biggest 1,” is part of the commission’s summer projects and is required by federal law that directs regular maintenance of voter rolls. The office plans a press release and social-media posts to explain to residents what to do if they receive a card for a person who no longer lives at their address.
Gannon said the registration mailing is a primary tool to maintain accurate rolls. “The biggest 1 would be the voter registration mass mailing. So that will be going out within the next, I would say, 2 to 4 weeks,” she told the committee. She added that outreach will precede the mailing: “Before the mailing goes out, we will put out a press release and post some social media…Here's what to do with it.”
Committee members asked whether the education effort would happen before or while the mailings go out; Gannon said the county will publish guidance before distribution. No formal action or vote was taken at the committee meeting on the mailing itself.
The election office presented this update as an informational item; the committee did not set policy or adopt new procedures during the session.
