The presiding officer of the Senate said the chamber converted its next meeting into a work session to finish action on an education bill and adjourned under Senate Rule 9 until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The move shifts the Senate’s schedule between now and a planned June 16 session the presiding officer described as what had been considered an “override session.” "But we have now converted into a work session, among other things to finish necessary action on the education bill," the presiding officer said, adding that "we will be conducting token sessions, with almost no business being conducted. Although we can submit bills, and do other limited parliamentary work, but, no real action until the sixteenth."
The presiding officer opened the short meeting and led a moment of silence in lieu of a devotional before explaining the schedule change and thanking senators, conferees and staff for their work. "Senate will come to order. Please join me in a brief moment of silence in lieu of a devotional," they said, later thanking colleagues for coming in the previous night and for conferees’ "diligent work."
At the close of the session the presiding officer said there was no quorum and invoked the chamber’s rules to adjourn. "So at 2PM in the afternoon and no quorum of the senate having assemble, pursuant to rule 9 of the senate rules, the senate adjourns until 11:00 in the forenoon on Tuesday, 06/03/2025," the presiding officer said.
Until the chamber reconvenes for fuller business, the presiding officer indicated that only limited parliamentary actions—such as bill submissions—are expected during token sessions. The Senate did not take any recorded roll-call votes or adopt ordinances or resolutions during this brief meeting.
