Assembly committee advances bill limiting minors' use of certain online products

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Assembly Committee on Commerce and Labor voted in a work session to amend and give a do-pass recommendation on Senate Bill 63, which revises provisions relating to the use of certain online products and services by minors and children. The measure was described to the committee as being sponsored on behalf of the attorney general and having three proposed amendments.

Committee Chair Marzola presided over the session. Assembly Member Torres Fawcett moved to amend and give the bill a do-pass recommendation; Vice Chair Howdighi seconded the motion. The committee adopted the motion by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried and assigned the floor statement to Assembly Member Torres Fawcett.

Committee staff told members that work sessions are intended to take action on measures the committee has previously heard and that it is “not customary for the committee to take testimony or otherwise rehear the bills during work session.” The committee’s agenda and meeting information are available through NELIS and the Nevada Legislature’s YouTube channel, staff said.

There were no questions from members during the motion and no public comment on the item. After the vote and the floor-statement assignment, Chair Marzola closed the work session and opened the meeting for public comment; none was offered and the meeting was adjourned.
