City staff told the Conway City Council on May 27 that the Connolly Community Center will open this summer and the council adopted the center’s fee schedule with one omitted section.
Jamie (Parks & Recreation project lead) said construction contractor Nabholz had kept the project on budget and that she had set a July 17 opening, giving about six weeks of summer availability before school resumes. "We will be open this summer," the mayor said after staff gave the date.
The nut graf: the council approved the center’s membership and rental fee structure, removed a draft section 2 from the ordinance packet, and adopted the revised ordinance by an 8–0 vote.
Staff described membership categories and verification procedures. Youth rates cover ages up to 18; seniors are defined as age 60 and older; family membership covers two adults and up to four minors (the packet noted options for additional youth at youth rates). Jamie said the city will use CivicRec membership software, with a printed membership card produced on first visit and card-scan entry thereafter. Members can use courts and amenities without an extra reservation fee; reservation fees apply for guaranteed use.
Council members emphasized affordability during the fee-development process. Jamie said the city used an original 2017 pricing study and compared local-area facilities; she said Conway’s rates are competitive and were intentionally set to be affordable.
The council moved to approve ordinance O-25-49 with the omission of section 2 and the motion carried 8–0.
Ending: With the fee schedule adopted and an opening date set for July 17, staff will finalize membership systems and public instructions before opening day.
