Kent reopens Kiwanis Tot Lot and previews summer festivals, pet events and farmers market handover

Mayor Dana Ralph celebrated the grand reopening of Kiwanis Tot Lot 4 and outlined a slate of summer events and changes to the Kent Farmers Market that he said residents should note.
“We had the grand reopening of Kiwanis Tot Lot 4 ... Great park, has brand new play equipment. There is what feels like a merry-go-round, but without the rails,” Ralph said, describing the renovated neighborhood playground just off Crow Street.
Ralph highlighted several upcoming events: the Kent International Festival starting at 10 a.m. at Accesso ShoWare Center; Kent Kitty Hall at 1:30 p.m. on June 5 at Kent City Hall; Kent Paw Fest on June 7 at Accesso ShoWare Center with more than 40 vendors; and a downtown pop-culture event on June 7 hosted by the Kent Downtown Partnership.
On the farmers market, Ralph thanked the Kent Lions for more than 25 years of organizing the market and said Living Well Kent will take over this season. He gave the market schedule as Saturdays from June 14 through Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Second Avenue between Smith and Gough, featuring produce, food trucks, arts and crafts and flowers.
The mayor encouraged residents to attend the events and to use parks and downtown spaces this summer; he did not announce new event funding or regulatory changes during the update.
