Horizonte held its Class of 2025 graduation ceremony, where student speakers, musical performances and awards preceded the formal acceptance of the graduating class on behalf of the Salt Lake City School District by Board of Education member Charlotte Fife Jefferson.
The ceremony included a performance of the national anthem by Mirzaad Masik and remarks from school leaders and student speakers about second chances and perseverance. Dr. Katie Nikka, assistant principal at Horizonte, introduced proceedings and Takiyah Pennington served as master of ceremonies.
"Students, your dedicated teachers and staff champion you and love you," Charlotte Fife Jefferson said as she addressed graduates and families after the presentations. Student speaker Luis Roberto Hurtado Ponce told classmates, "Graduation is not the end. Graduation is the beginning."
Speakers highlighted Horizonte's role as a place for students who needed a fresh start, with multiple student speakers describing how the school's staff and resources supported their return to school, credit recovery and transitions to college-level coursework.
Principal Moliki Mulitalo presented the class; at the ceremony's close attendees observed a tassel-turning ritual and were reminded to remain seated until graduates exited and to meet graduates outside after the processional.
