Council authorized the city manager to apply for a $329,000 Dallas County Community Development Block Grant to reconstruct a 3,450-foot section of East Farmer Road and discussed optional extensions with higher-cost quotes from Anderson Asphalt.
The Seagoville City Council authorized the city manager to submit an application for a Dallas County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to fund reconstruction of a 3,450-foot section of East Farmer Road.
Chris, the city’s director of public works, described the project map and the sections under consideration. “The orange section is 3,450 foot, and that’s what we have the funding for,” Chris said, identifying the orange section as the portion covered by the $329,000 county grant. He said the county’s work would use a thinner asphalt layer compared with a thicker section quoted by a private contractor.
Chris outlined optional extensions: a yellow section would cost $59,800 to reach concrete placed by a private developer, and adding the green section would bring the combined yellow-and-green total to $153,400 using the county approach. The city obtained a quote from Anderson Asphalt to complete the yellow and green sections with a thicker (6-inch) asphalt surface; that quote was $316,200. Chris said the thicker pavement is expected to last about eight to ten years, while county-standard resurfacing typically lasts about five to six years.
Chris said the $329,000 grant award would arrive in October and construction would likely take place the next year. Council members moved and seconded the resolution authorizing the application; the motion passed with no opposition recorded. Council agreed to submit the CDBG application for the orange section and to revisit funding for any extensions during the next budget cycle.
