Ashwaubenon names new Element Way park for former state senator Jerome Van Sistine

The Village Board on Tuesday voted to name the new park on Element Way after Jerome (Jerry) Van Sistine, a former state senator and village trustee.
Rex (presenter) told trustees construction on the park is scheduled to start in July and the Park Board unanimously recommended the name. "Mr. Van Sistine was a state senator from Ashwaubenon, served 1976 through 1992," Rex said, and staff reported family members living locally support the recognition.
Trustees discussed whether to open a public naming process or accept the Park Board recommendation; they agreed the Park Board's internal process and the Park Board's unanimous vote supported moving forward without a public contest. A motion to name the park after Van Sistine carried by voice vote.
Staff will implement the name in park signage and project materials as construction begins.
