The New London Common Council on May 20 approved the recommendation from the Park and Recreation Committee to accept a recreational boating fund grant agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for a project that would add a courtesy dock, renovate a parking area and resurface a trail from the water to a local business.
Park and Recreation Director Sowell presented the grant agreement to the committee; the committee voted 7-0 to recommend approval and the council later approved the recommendation 9-0. During committee discussion Director Sowell described the project scope as a courtesy dock, parking renovation, and trail resurfacing; the Park and Recreation Committee recommended council approval of the agreement.
Why it matters: The grant will fund improvements at a water access point that the committee said will support recreational boating and public access. The council’s vote endorsed the committee’s recommendation; execution of the grant agreement and project scheduling will follow the city’s administrative processes and grant requirements.
The council vote followed a motion by Council Member Besaw and a second by Council Member Herter; the motion carried 9-0.
