The Zoning Commission on a 5-0-0 vote approved a modification without a hearing to expand DC Central Kitchen by 6,533 square feet at Square 613.
The modification, filed as case number 17-05E, was presented by Michelle (Office of Zoning staff). Vice Chair Miller summarized the applicant’s justification, saying, "DC Central Kitchen ... is a nonprofit and social enterprise [that] combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation for individuals facing high barriers to employment," and said he supported the modification.
Commissioners said the architectural plans appeared to meet the criteria for a modification without a hearing and noted that Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6D had submitted a letter of support. Commissioner Elmore moved approval; a second was called and a roll-call vote recorded: Commissioner Imamura, yes; Commissioner Wright, yes; Chairman Anthony Hood, yes; Vice Chair Miller, yes; Commissioner Stidham, yes.
The commission recorded the vote as 5-0-0 and asked the applicant to submit a draft order within two weeks. Counsel confirmed the commission would accept a summary order if appropriate.
The action preserves the previously approved design-review framework while adding gross floor area for the nonprofit’s operations. No testimony from members of the public was taken during the modification without hearing.
The commission’s administrative directions: applicant to file a draft order within two weeks; commission counsel indicated summary order would be acceptable.
