Tipton City is preparing its public pool for the season and managing yard-waste and large-item collections, Dylan Dietrich, superintendent of the municipal services department, said on the Tipton Thrives podcast.

Dietrich described spring pool work that includes pressure washing, vacuuming leaves, getting pumps running and hanging sunshades. "We've had a pretty busy spring. First off, we... spend hours and days pressure washing the pool... getting a vac truck out here, vaccing out all the leaves. And then once it's cleaned, then we still have to get the pumps running," Dietrich said.

On yard waste, Dietrich said municipal crews run collection five days a week and pick up limbs, grass clippings and leaves placed at alleys or curbside where alleys don't exist. "We actually run yard waste, five days a week. We're picking up anything from limbs to grass clippings to leaves," Dietrich said. He noted the city ordinance requires yard-waste items be placed in containers by tier, and that community practice has lapsed in places, creating problems such as clogged drains.

For large-item pickup, Dietrich said residents can arrange service by visiting the street department at 500 Green Street or by mailing/dropping a check; the pickup charge is $35 per dump-truck load, not per item. "It's $35 for a dump truck load," he said. He added the city does not pick up construction materials or refrigerators because refrigerators contain Freon.

Dietrich and the host emphasized the municipal services department is a catchall for responsibilities ranging from pool preparation to road projects and street cleaning. The podcast did not provide a calendar date for the pool opening; officials said cooler weather had delayed a customary opening date.
