The Brecksville–Broadview Heights Board of Education approved a set of personnel actions as part of the consent agenda on May 28, including new certified and classified hires, supplemental assignments and retirements.
Approved personnel actions include multiple new hires across grade bands and special education, extended‑day contracts for speech pathologists and guidance counselors, and summer and ESY (extended school year) staff. The board recognized two long‑serving certified employees who announced retirements: Don Ferrante, a high school math teacher and track coach with 32 years of service, and Todd Lasall, an elementary fourth‑grade teacher with 27 years of service.
Building principals described their hiring processes and introduced several of the recommended candidates at the meeting. High school principal Jacob (principal) explained the multi‑stage interview and teaching‑audition process for secondary positions and introduced hires including Nathan Godsey (math) and Emily Zemko (math). Middle and elementary principals introduced hires for intervention specialist, grade‑level and early‑grade positions and praised candidates’ classroom experience and fit with building teams.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Brecksville–Broadview Heights Education Association to align certain retirement payout and benefits timing for educators affected by changes in STRS (State Teachers Retirement System) rules; the MOU passed by roll call vote 5‑0. The superintendent and administrators thanked staff for managing an extensive hiring season and noted the district will post remaining hires as they are finalized.
Ending: The consent agenda containing personnel approvals passed 5‑0. Administrators asked the board to welcome new hires at an upcoming reception and to recognize retiring staff in future events.
