Brentwood recreation committee members reviewed vendor estimates for tree removal and perimeter work at the lower parking lot and agreed to seek an additional quote before making a decision.
The review matters because the parking-lot work will be paid from the recreation revolving account and affects access to the recreation fields and facilities.
Recreation staff summarized the estimates provided by vendors and explained that the quotes differed by scope. Staff said one vendor (Bartlett) had an estimate of about $15,600 for a phase of work that included multiple services, while Seacoast Tree Care quoted roughly $3,200 for trees and brush near the parking lot and a separate $7,200 figure for work on the field perimeter. "So we have 3 to go off with now," staff said, and recommended tabling a vote until the June meeting so the committee could review a fourth proposal.
Committee members asked that Bulldog (the vendor who did not show for a site walk) be contacted again to provide a fourth quote. One committee member said having four bids would allow a clearer apples-to-apples comparison: "If Bulldog cannot come out, maybe... go there and say, 'here is the x amount, what we're looking for,'" they said.
Staff clarified funding: the department intends to pay for the project from its revolving account and noted an anticipated town bill of roughly $15,000 that would reduce the available balance. "After the rough $15,000 bill from the town, we're looking to kinda eat into the 60,000 that we're expecting to have at this specific point in time," staff said.
The committee agreed to try to reschedule Bulldog for a site walk and to bring final quotes back to the June meeting for a vote. No formal motion to award work was made during the discussion.
