The Canal Winchester Landmarks Commission approved an application (CA25-025) for awning details and stamped-concrete patio decking at 10 West Oak Street on May 27.
Staff presented cut sheets and said the awning supports are timber-style brackets intended to be concealed from ground view; the applicant provided an installed sample for commissioners to inspect prior to the meeting. The commission discussed the fixed windows behind the awnings, their dark-bronze framing and insulated glass. John Oney, representing the historical society, said the fixed panes would match previously approved storefront bronze frames.
On the patio material, the applicant said the stamped concrete color is “wheat shock,” an integral color in the mix rather than a surface application. The applicant said they chose a large 48-inch stamp to achieve a scaled, aged-flagstone look rather than a modular rectangular pattern. Commissioners had no substantive objections to the pattern or color noted and approved CA25-025.
Members asked the applicant to confirm details such as the center "stick" on the fixed windows (an aesthetic, nonfunctional brace) and ensure interior paint and trim would match the proposed siding. The commission recorded a unanimous vote to approve the awning and patio details; staff said the applicant might return with minor refinements but may proceed with the approved elements.
The project is part of an overall renovation and patio/pedestrian improvements; staff and the applicant will coordinate as needed on final installation and any building permits required.
