Transitional living home reports full capacity, plans for growth to serve former foster youth

Representatives of Moab House told Mahoning County commissioners on May 29 that their transitional living home for young adults who have aged out of foster care has reached capacity and that the program plans to grow.
"We are at capacity," said Marcy Consiglio of Moab House, adding that the home has housed seven young adults and that five moved in during May. Consiglio said one resident who has been with the program since it opened in December 2023 is graduating from high school.
Lori Mantegui, the program’s house parent, described the home as an on-site, transitional living residence for people ages 18 to 21. "We have 8 rooms, and they can learn how to do things that they weren't able to do in the foster care system, get their driver's license, make sure they have a savings account, save for the future, get a job," Mantegui said.
Consiglio said mailings about Moab House were sent to "the '88 counties in Ohio" and that the organization received strong interest suggesting a wider demand for such services. The presenters thanked the commissioners for attending their ribbon-cutting on Feb. 13 and for county support.
The presenters said the facility is part of a campus of care and described the location as quiet and peaceful compared with group-home settings in denser neighborhoods. They said Moab House plans additional homes and services but gave no timeline or budget for expansion.
No formal action or vote was recorded; the presentation was part of the public-comment portion of the meeting.
