Bandera council backs TxDOT grant application for downtown Main Street sidewalks

The proposed project would construct or reconstruct sidewalks, curb ramps, crosswalks and related pedestrian facilities along Main Street between Cedar Street and the Sycamore/Lowe's intersection to improve pedestrian mobility and ADA accessibility.
City materials specified the project limits as Cedar Street down to the Sycamore and Lowe's intersection and clarified that the block in front of OST and Arkes is not part of this application because TxDOT is separately designing that block. The resolution signals the city’s commitment to meet match requirements and maintain any improvements if awarded federal funds; the council was clear the resolution only authorizes the application and does not commit the city to construction until an award is received.
Tony Battle moved to approve Resolution No. 2025-022; Lynn Palmer seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
Staff said the city has pursued similar sidewalk funding in prior years and that the application is intended to extend contiguous, ADA-compliant sidewalks in areas currently lacking continuous pedestrian facilities. Additional details on match amounts and design will be provided if the city is successful in obtaining TA funds.
