At the council's May 27 meeting the Town Council approved several routine license renewals and discussed regulatory questions tied to mobile liquor vendors.
On medical‑marijuana caregiver renewals, Chair Brenda Bridal opened a public hearing and noted the police and fire chiefs and the code-enforcement officer had no concerns. The council approved the renewal applications for Evergreen Cannabis Co. (Andrew Pettengill) at 222 Gray Road; Evergreen Cannabis Co. (Kristen Pettengill) at 93 Lower Methodist Road; SSJA LLC (Jacob Atkinson) at 212 Gray Road; and Samuel Hebert at 210 Gray Road. Mike Schwint and others in the public spoke in support or to confirm inspections; permit applicants were present to answer questions. One councilor expressed discomfort with state regulation of medical marijuana dispensaries but voted for the renewals nonetheless, saying he felt compelled by the legal framework.
The council also considered liquor licenses. The council approved a liquor license application for Wanderer Foods and Events LLC, with councilors noting the operator brings restaurant experience in the region. The council approved a renewal for Thirsty Travelers LLC, a mobile liquor vendor domiciled in Cumberland; councilors discussed at length how such licenses work. Town staff explained the state license must list the domiciled location where the vehicle is stored, and a municipal approval is required for that domiciling. Staff clarified the mobile liquor vendor may operate offsite (for example, at private events or town‑permitted public events) but must have property‑owner permission to operate on public property like a town park; the holder must comply with liquor‑license laws, age restrictions and insurance requirements. The council briefly discussed whether the town should reevaluate municipal license fees; town staff noted state liquor license fees are paid to the State of Maine and not the town.
By motion, the council approved the renewals and the liquor applications. The chair announced the votes passed unanimously on the medical‑marijuana renewals and on the Wanderer liquor license; the motion to renew Thirsty Travelers passed after a recorded vote with one dissent noted by the council clerk's roll call.
