The San Luis City Council approved purchasing inclusive playground equipment for a neighborhood park using cooperative procurement through a state contract and two nonprofit donations.
Parks and recreation director Angelica Roldan described the planned additions: an accessible whirl accommodating up to two wheelchair users, a communication board with images and words to assist non‑verbal visitors, an ADA swing seat and poured‑in‑place rubber pads. Roldan said the items will be installed under an existing shade structure and that staff obtained a quote from Bridal Bank Associates Inc. under the Mojave State cooperative purchasing contract.
Roldan said the Parks Department had received two donations to fund the purchase: about $22,132.20 from the Cocopah Tribe and $36,695.40 from Campesinos en Frontera, totaling $58,827.68; staff asked council to approve the cooperative purchase of $56,495.41.
Council members praised the project and nonprofits that helped fund it. Council member Maria Cecilia Cruz and others noted the project had been before council previously but lacked funding; the new donations enabled moving forward. Council approved the cooperative purchase unanimously.
Staff said they would coordinate installation and follow up with timing and logistics.
