City staff updated the Nevada City Council on several public-works and emergency-services items, including a possible delay to the aquatic center opening, the upcoming start of the Indian Creek SRF project, hydrant maintenance plans and an expected new fire engine.
The parks staff said the aquatic center was scheduled to open Sunday but cold and windy weather has delayed staff training and pool readiness; opening may be pushed back a day or two, and staff will notify the public via social media. Public-works staff said the contractor for the Indian Creek SRF project will mobilize next Monday and plans to start work near the fairgrounds and move west and north, with an intent to complete work before fair events.
Staff also told the council they plan to paint hydrants up to Highway 30 and will divide the city’s hydrant painting over several years, completing about a third of the city each year. The fire department reported that a new engine is expected to arrive "just in time for Christmas," and the fire chief discussed participating in a national firefighter fatality review team to help local safety practices.
Parks staff passed along compliments from residents about Memorial Day cemetery maintenance and thanked volunteers who placed flags. The council was also briefed on other routine administrative items, including a library kickoff for the summer learning program and a new director beginning work next Monday.
Staff said they will post pool schedule and opening updates on social media and will coordinate with the council about construction schedules for SRF work near event areas.
