Westmont honors long-serving Village Manager Stephen M. May at final board meeting

Village Manager Stephen M. May received recognition from the Westmont Village Board and community members at the May 29 meeting as he prepares to retire after more than three decades with the village.
Residents and former colleagues offered thanks and congratulations during the open forum and board remarks. Ron Gunther, a longtime Westmont resident, told the board he came specifically to acknowledge May: “When you're in public service for 40 years and 36 and a half here, that's an honor to accomplish,” Gunther said.
Manager May addressed the board and audience, noting the meeting was his final Village Board meeting and that his last day with the village would be the following day. He reviewed a career that began in 1986, included service as director of public works from 2003 to 2014, and tenure as village manager beginning in 2014. The plaque read at the meeting summarized that service and thanked him for dedicated service to the community.
Mayor and trustees praised May’s leadership and the team he built in village administration. The board presented May with a plaque honoring his service and joined staff, family members and community representatives for a group photograph.
May told the board he was ready to retire and noted his appreciation for staff, elected officials and partner agencies. Trustees and attendees thanked him for his leadership and said he will remain a part of the community.
