Mike Hughes, a Brookville resident, told the council his trash collection has been missed “every 4 to 8 weeks” and that when crews fail to pick up bins neighborhood animals scatter the contents. “If I owe a bill to somebody and I'm late on that bill, I've been penalized. So why isn't the trash company penalized?” he asked.
Hughes also said a stretch of road from Piermont to the southern city limits is developing numerous potholes that temporary cold patches are not fixing. He told councilors the street is “blown up” and urged more persistent repair work.
Hughes closed his remarks by telling the council he believes members have improved responsiveness since a recent referendum and recall, saying: “Everybody seems to be paying closer attention to what the citizens are saying.”
Council did not take formal action during the public‑comment period but councilors and staff have previously noted service‑contract monitoring and public‑works patching are part of ongoing departmental duties; residents were advised to contact city staff for specific service complaints so staff can follow up.
