The Saint Bernard safety committee reported on May 22 a series of recommendations to address street parking and speeding concerns raised by residents.
Committee members described recurring issues including verge parking, frequent speeding near schools, and commercial vehicles parked on residential streets. The committee recommended conducting a traffic study on Ross Avenue to assess volumes and speeds; exploring conversion of Tower Avenue to one-way traffic near schools to improve safety and traffic flow; and investigating temporary speed mitigation measures such as speed cushions on streets like Sullivan.
Other suggested actions included increasing enforcement against parking on sidewalks and improper trash-can placement, clarifying distinctions between work vans and oversized commercial vehicles, and encouraging clearly displayed house numbers to assist emergency responders. The committee asked city personnel to provide information about house-number requirements in the Ohio building code for potential ordinance updates.
Council received the report and listed the recommended actions as items for follow up; no ordinance was adopted at the May 22 meeting but the committee urged coordination with the police department and code enforcement.
