CIC schedules appraisal to contest 2024 tax valuation after demolition
Summary
The CIC arranged an appraisal for May 29 to support a tax reevaluation appeal of the 2024 assessed building value of $2.1 million; staff said the county records should be updated after demolition but will follow up with the auditor/treasurer about formal steps.

The Saint Barn Community Improvement Corporation said May 27 it has hired an appraiser to support an appeal of the building valuation used for 2024 property taxes.
Meredith Hughes told the board the appraisal is being obtained because “the building value for that tax year was overstated.” She said the county auditor’s figure “has it at 2.1” (meaning $2,100,000) and that the CIC does not believe the property is worth that amount for tax-year 2024. Hughes said the appraiser is scheduled to visit on May 29.
Hughes said the appraisal is intended to prove to the county auditor and treasurer that the building’s stated value was too high so the CIC can seek a refund for 2024 taxes. She told the board that after the demolition is complete she will contact the county to determine the steps needed to have records updated to show no improvement on the property; she said that process is expected to be administrative but that she would report back if she finds otherwise.
No formal decision about further appeals or litigation was announced; the board is proceeding with the appraisal and said it will coordinate with county officials after demolition is finished.
