Facilities committee recommends HVAC upgrades at Sun Valley Middle and High to full board

The Union County Public Schools Facilities Committee on May 28 voted unanimously to recommend that the full board approve awarding HVAC modification work at Sun Valley Middle School and Sun Valley High School to the lowest responsive bidder, Thermal Conditioning.

The recommendation came after facilities staff told the committee that four contractors submitted bids on May 15 and that Thermal Conditioning was the low responsive bidder. "Thermal Conditioning submitted the lowest responsive bid," said Mr. McManus (staff member). The exact dollar amount in the meeting transcript was not clearly transcribed.

Committee members asked technical questions about the scope of work. "It's a bunch of different things actually," said Mr. Elms (staff member). He described planned work at Sun Valley Middle as adding reheat for dehumidification, installing a ductless unit and replacing a rooftop unit. At Sun Valley High, Elms said the work addresses an "old steam boiler that's grossly oversized" that serves the old gym area, locker rooms and the pack shop area.

After the presentation and questions, the committee chair asked for a motion to send the item to the full board. The committee approved the motion by a 4-0 vote.

The committee also listed surplus inventory and provided a bond-status update later in the meeting; those items were informational and no formal board action was taken on them during this meeting.

The Facilities Committee scheduled its next meeting for June 25 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.
