The Moraga Town Council voted May 14 to establish a joint fire‑services committee with the Moraga‑Orinda Fire District (MOFD) and to appoint the town’s current MOFD liaisons as the council’s representatives on the committee.
Town Manager Scott (staff) told the council the committee would mirror a similar Orinda‑MOFD arrangement and provide a standing venue for coordinated discussion of fire prevention, suppression, emergency medical services, evacuation planning and related topics. Scott said the committee title—Fire Services Committee—was chosen to give the group flexibility to address a range of fire‑and‑emergency issues.
Council discussion emphasized the value of a formal, agendized venue after recent concerns about ambulance-service coverage and MOFD budget decisions. Councilmembers noted the committee should reduce duplication of effort between informal liaisons and a standing structure that would allow staff participation, public access and regular meeting schedules. The town manager said meetings would be scheduled after the MOFD board confirms its representatives.
Council moved that the town appoint its two current MOFD liaisons to the joint committee; the motion carried unanimously. Staff said it will contact MOFD leadership to schedule the first meeting and offered to have town staff attend the early meetings to support coordination.
