A Campolinda-area resident asked the Moraga Town Council on May 14 to place a June LGBTQ Pride Month proclamation on a future agenda and to raise a Pride flag at town facilities.
The speaker, identified in remarks as Casey Rain, told the council she would volunteer time and offered to donate a flag ‘‘so that there is no cost or impact to the town budget.’’
The mayor responded that staff are ‘‘progressing a proclamation’’ and that the mayor is ‘‘working with Wendell Baker’’ on the item. Council members discussed practical questions about flag display and noted the town historically maintains a restrained policy on flag use at the municipal flagpole to avoid opening the pole to any political messages. The town manager said small, noncontroversial civic flags for June historically have been placed on downtown poles and that staff would proceed if council directs.
Council did not take a formal vote; the mayor and staff indicated a proclamation is in process and that the resident’s offer to assist will be accepted.
