Pullman to offer free summer meals at Kamiak Elementary and Rainy Park June 16–Aug. 14

Pullman Public Schools staff told the board the district will offer free summer meals for children ages 1–18 starting June 16 and running through Aug. 14.
Why it matters: Summer meal programs provide essential nutrition for children when school meals are not available. The district said the program last year reached many families and helped in cases where household resources were strained.
Program details Justin Polstow said the program will operate at Kamiak Elementary starting June 16 (first day after school ends) and run through Aug. 14. In July, the district will operate a grab‑and‑go site at Rainey Park, which the district used successfully last year. The Boys & Girls Club will be co‑located at Kamiak. Meals will be available without advance registration; parents may sign out meals for their children. Polstow told the board the district’s experience last year included families who relied on the program while dealing with car repairs and other temporary hardships.
Next steps District staff said sites and times were publicized; board members asked clarifying questions about eligibility and frequency — staff confirmed the program is open to all children ages 1–18 and that families may use sites flexibly across the summer.
Ending Board members thanked staff and organizers and encouraged community use and awareness of the program.
