Board approves several professional-development contracts, including $70,000 dual-language training for 12 teachers

The Farmersville Unified School District Board approved multiple professional-development and training contracts at its May 28 meeting, including a $70,000 contract for bilingual/dual-language staff training.

The board approved: attendance at the MTSS Professional Learning Institute (Anaheim, July 2025) with a request that attendees report back to the district; an AVID contract for 2025–26; and an agreement with Dr. Jose Medina Educational Solutions LLC described in the meeting as a dual-language training provider. During discussion a staff member said the Medina contract covers 12 teachers at a rate that equated to "$7,000 a day for 12 teachers" and "70 thousand dollars on the contract." Board members acknowledged Medina as a national expert in dual-language programs and asked follow-up questions about the number of participants and outreach to additional staff.

Board Member Freddy Espinosa requested that staff ensure professional-development attendees provide a brief report to the district after conferences. The board voted to approve the items; recorded motions cite John Alvarez and Merced Zamora among motioners/seconders and public votes were unanimous (4-0) for the items recorded on the transcript.

Board discussion included an encouragement to open training opportunities to administrators and teachers on special assignment in addition to lead teachers. The meeting record does not include contract execution dates beyond the fiscal year and calls for district staff to manage sign-ups and reporting from the events.
