City manager reports animal-services staffing and regional solid-waste contract review

Hughsons city manager updated the council on animal services and regional solid-waste contracting during the staff reports portion of the meeting.
The manager said the Stanislaus Regional services meeting and budget subcommittee work are underway and that a new executive director, Lily, is getting acclimated in animal services. He reported that the animal-services budget proposal had previously been described as a 50% increase but that an update brought that estimate closer to 25%; he said the city will attend the upcoming SRHA budget meeting and work with partners to seek ways to reduce the increase where possible.
On solid waste, the manager said Hughson participates in a 10-year regional solid-waste contract that is being updated and includes a rate increase; he said the draft appears similar to other cities agreements and contains a five-year opener. Staff said they will bring the completed contract to council for consideration once the review is finished.
