Council approves engineering task order for 100th/9th roundabout; wells 8 and 9 construction underway

The St. John Town Council on May 28 approved Task Order No. 25-08 for engineering services for the proposed roundabout at 109th Avenue and White Oak Avenue, not to exceed $176,000.
Robinson Engineering’s Dave Schilling described the project history: in 2023 the town authorized feasibility studies for two roundabouts and the 100th/First and Calumet site was deemed infeasible because of right-of-way constraints. The council then advanced the 109th/White Oak roundabout. Schilling told the council that geometry and scope are set and the new task order covers legal descriptions and acquisition of additional right-of-way, lighting design, sidewalk connections to the proposed park, driveway coordination for the Heartland Park expansion, bidding and award of the construction contract.
Councilor Christian Jorgensen asked staff to clarify the intersection location for the record. The motion to approve Task Order 25-08 passed unanimously on roll call.
Separately, in reports the council heard that work on wells 8 and 9 is underway. Schilling said preliminary grading was performed the prior week, Well 8’s site is cleared, and Grimmer Construction expects to extend the raw water main to the new well house as soon as pipe fittings arrive, possibly the following week. He said the contractor will sequence work so crews can proceed on Well 9 after initial grading at that site; the intent is to perform both wells more or less simultaneously to save time and costs.
The roundabout task order vote was recorded as Christian Jorgensen, aye; Anne Oster, aye; Wayne Pandinis, aye; Gerald Swatz, aye; Mike Bovat, aye. Motion carries 5-0.
