Union High School holds Class of 2025 commencement; scholarships and retirements honored

Union High School held a ceremony on the evening of the Class of 2025 commencement where school leaders, a student speaker and staff recognized graduates, announced scholarships and honored retiring employees.
The ceremony featured remarks from Principal Ronald Hall, a representative of the board of education identified as Dr. Chris, and a student speaker identified as Caitlin, who spoke on behalf of the class. Principal Hall opened the program by congratulating graduates and thanking teachers, staff and family members for their support: “We also recognize the family members, our parents and guardians… Our students wouldn't be here without the care and support that you need.”
The American Red Cross awarded scholarships to students in recognition of a blood donation drive. According to remarks at the ceremony, “students and staff donated over 40 units of blood,” and the American Red Cross provided eight $500 scholarships to students. The principal presented the scholarship announcement and invited recipients to receive the awards.
The program also included traditional awards and honors. Organizers presented the Rise of Phoenix award to selected seniors described as being chosen by staff for promise shown during the school year. A dean’s award was given to Dr. Jesse Baldwin “for her commitment,” and several named staff members assisted in distributing awards during the ceremony.
The ceremony included retirement recognitions. Principal Hall and others thanked Jan Powell for 32 years of service and noted Mr. Bob (identified in remarks as retiring) for his long service and contributions to the school. In his remarks, Powell reflected on gratitude and relationships built over a long career: “Gratitude has always been a ground and force in my life… As I step into the next chapter, I carry with me a heart full of memories.” Principal Hall also praised Mr. Bob’s advocacy and work expanding the program and facilities.
A student class representative (Caitlin) delivered a commencement address that thanked teachers and staff, acknowledged classmates’ struggles and urged graduates to carry resilience forward: “High school is not always a movie montage… Every one of us has a story of resilience.”
Following remarks and awards, the ceremony included a video presentation of highlights and the reading of graduate names. Attendees were invited to remain for the processional that concludes the program. No formal board actions, votes or policy decisions were part of the event; the evening’s agenda consisted of speeches, awards presentations, scholarship announcements and recognition of retiring staff.
Photos and awards distribution concluded the program and graduates were presented to the audience as the Class of 2025.
