Board members discussed proposed calendar changes to the regular meeting schedule that would remove the district's second November meeting (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving), the second meeting in June, and the first meeting in July.
"It's the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. People, on board are trying to get out of town sometimes," the meeting chair said in support of removing the second November meeting, citing travel and scheduling conflicts for trustees and staff.
Staff said removing the second June meeting and the first July meeting would create a short summer break for the board while retaining the ability to call special meetings for pressing business such as construction project deadlines, required financial approvals or public hearings. Staff emphasized that the district must still hold its organizational meeting at or after the canvass of votes; the regulation text points to policy references on when the organizational meeting must occur.
Board members noted that some years the second June meeting has had little business and that consolidating items to the first December meeting for organizational duties could help the district's timeline for annual organizational actions. Staff said they will mark up the calendar language and discuss the change at the upcoming board table meeting before final adoption.
