Policy revisions aim to give the district more administrative flexibility while clarifying existing rules. Staff proposed letting the chief financial officer set certain threshold amounts "not to exceed what the state level, limits are," a change staff said would avoid frequent board updates while keeping district spending within state and federal limits.
District staff said the revisions also clarify enforcement of a longstanding rule on recording devices. "This is not a new policy," a district staff member said of policy 804.6, which addresses use of recording devices on school property. The presenter said the policy is used to support discipline when students post recordings of fights or other incidents to social media.
The facilities-use fee schedule (policy 905.1 g2) was highlighted for a change that would prohibit use of school facilities for funerals or memorial services except by superintendent exception. "We're not gonna allow any of them," a district staff member said, adding that the superintendent has granted exceptions when the deceased was a member of the school community. Staff said the change responds to repeated requests from people with no current district connection.
Staff also pointed to safety language added under 905.1 r1 to discourage renters from propping exterior doors. "If you're renting our space and you're propping the doors open, that could cost you your ability to use our facilities," a district staff member said.
Board members raised a handful of wording and typographical issues, including one question about a convoluted phrase in the proposed threshold language for policy sections listed as "80318031 g 1," and a separate note about an address listed incorrectly in the draft. Staff acknowledged the phrasing issues and said they would rework the language before final consideration.
The committee flagged the package for continued review; staff said most changes are proofreading, title updates to match the district's administrative structure, or clarifications driven by state guidance.
