ABZA approves RV park expansion southeast of Lafayette

The Tippecanoe County Area Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception May 28 allowing Nikko LLC to expand an existing recreational vehicle park southeast of Lafayette.
Staff reported the campground has operated on the site since about 1969 and currently contains 75 campsites; the petition seeks to add 44 sites in an area of the property that previously stored unused RVs. Ryan (APC staff) told the board city utilities are available and that setbacks and buffering are in place; he said the Unified Zoning Ordinance requires a special exception now and a subsequent subdivision review by the Area Plan Commission.
Kevin Riley, attorney for the petitioner, and representatives of the project said the expansion would not change hours of operation, would not add outdoor lighting and would not increase noise compared with the existing use. Ryan and Riley both said parking and vehicle space were accounted for on the plan.
No members of the public spoke against the petition. The board voted by ballot and recorded seven yes votes; the special exception passed. The APC will review subdivision details later as required by ordinance.
