Board questions rehiring practices, pay steps for special education resource teachers

The Lakeville Area Schools board paused the consent agenda on May 27 to question employment recommendations and the district’s approach to probationary staff and special-education hiring.
Director Brian Thompson asked why several teachers listed as ‘‘nonrenewed’’ in the packet were subsequently rehired for the same positions. ‘‘Are we just letting go of all probationary staff and then having everybody reinterview for their job, or is there an opportunity for some probationary staff to stay on?’’ he asked.
