Commissioners order engineer report on proposed vacation of Terrace Drive right-of-way

Presentation. Public Works Supervisor Craig Erdman reported that on April 21, 2025, Public Works received a petition from a landowner adjoining Terrace Drive asking that a portion of the right-of-way shown on Short Plat 2018-23, Lot 2 be vacated. Erdman said the petition was accompanied by a sufficient bond as required by law and that "pursuant to chapter 12.08.02 of the Franklin County Code, upon the filing of such a petition, the Board of County Commissioners may, but is not required to, proceed with an intention to vacate the portion of a road as requested. If the board decides to consider the petition, it must signify its intent with a resolution and order the county engineer to report on such a vacation."
Board action. Staff recommended proceeding; Commissioner Baumann moved to approve resolution 2025-0159 to signify the board—s intent and to order the engineering report. The motion passed by voice vote. The engineering report and accounting will be prepared per statutory process, and the board will consider that report before making any final determination.
Next steps. The county engineer will prepare the required report and accounting; once filed, the matter will return to the board for public hearing and final action as provided under Franklin County Code chapter 12.08.02 and applicable law.
