Council approves streamlined reappointments and allows applicants to shift preferences for advisory boards

Deputy City Clerk Roxanne Reseda presented the results of the recruitment to fill advisory board and commission vacancies for terms ending June 30, 2025, and outlined three interview/appointment options for the council.
Reseda said notices were posted on the city’s website, social media and public bulletin boards, and that the initial recruitment closed April 24 with an extended deadline to May 8. The recruitment netted 30 qualified applicants, six of whom were incumbents; attachment materials included application packets and an attendance report for incumbents.
Councilmembers said they favored the efficiency of staff’s Option 1 — reappoint incumbents when appropriate — but expressed interest in not discouraging new applicants. Councilmember Karen asked staff to contact applicants to see if they would consider other open boards; staff confirmed they would do so. The BID advisory board appointments remain the purview of BID membership; the BID recommended Callen Banos and Crystal Manky for two BID advisory seats.
Councilmember Michael moved to proceed with Option 1, including BID recommendations and allowing applicants to change their requested positions; Councilmember Mendel seconded. The motion passed 5–0.
Staff will schedule tentative in-person interviews on June 10 for any remaining contested seats and will contact applicants about alternate preferences where incumbents are reappointed.
