Blessed Trinity swimmers Caitlin Umbris and Will Kaminski honored as state champions

Mayor Kurt Wilson and school officials recognized two Blessed Trinity swimmers who won state events: Caitlin Umbris, a sophomore who won the 200 freestyle, and Will Kaminski, a freshman who won the 100-meter breaststroke. Coach Michael Reynolds, introduced at the meeting, described the hard work required for swimming, including early morning practices and year-round training. "Sometimes it feels like luck and being in the right place at the right time, but more than that, it's the work," Coach Reynolds said.

Caitlin Umbris told the meeting she swam twice daily most weeks and that her winning time in the 200 free was "52 5 something," which she described as a personal best. Will Kaminski said he was seated second or third and pushed on the last lap to win his event. School leaders noted that Blessed Trinity does not have an on-campus pool, so athletes travel to off-campus facilities for practice and competition; the athletic director described extra early-morning access arranged at the Mountain View/Meadowview facility.

City leaders and school administrators praised the swimmers for balancing demanding practice schedules with schoolwork and recognized Coach Reynolds’s dual role as teacher and coach. This was a ceremonial recognition; no formal city actions or budget commitments were made during the presentation.
