Kristen Gare, campaign chair for the Measure R renewal, used the public‑comment period at the San Marino Unified School District board meeting on May 27 to urge immediate voter turnout.
Gare said Measure R would provide $1.6 million in annual funding to pay for 11 teacher and counselor positions and that the tax is set to expire next month. She told the board the measure requires a two‑thirds supermajority — 66.67% — to pass and reminded voters that Election Day is June 3.
Gare said county election returns showed “less than 15% of registered voters have voted so far,” and she urged parents to use ballot‑drop sites or vote in person at Huntington Middle School gym. She recited the gym’s hours, which the campaign provided as 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily before the election and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 3, and told listeners ballots can also be dropped at San Marino City Hall.
No board action on Measure R occurred during the meeting. Board members and district leaders reiterated requests in other agenda items for community turnout, noting the measure affects staffing and district programs.
Campaign contact information and requests for volunteers were included in Gare’s remarks; she said volunteers were canvassing and texting in the run‑up to the election.
